Springhouse Foundation

Springhouse Foundation was formed in 2019. It is an offshoot of the Chaparral Foundation, which was created by Harriet and Harvey Herd in 1997. The Herds established their home as newlyweds in Midland, Texas in 1940, making community service a priority. Their efforts served children, education, healthcare and other basic human needs, and the arts. Their legacy of dedication to community was realized through Chaparral Foundation, which supported charitable organizations in the communities where their children and grandchildren reside.

In the Austin community, Chaparral Foundation supported the work of Helping Hand Home for Children, the SAFE Alliance, Capital Area Food Bank, Explore Austin, HeartGift Foundation, The Junior League of Austin, Seton Fund, Dell Children’s Hospital, El Buen Samaritano, Salvation Army, Camp Cypress, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, ADL Austin, Wonders and Worries, Con Mi Madre, Magdalene House, and the Trail Foundation, among other nonprofits. While Chaparral Foundation now concentrates its philanthropic efforts in West Texas, Springhouse Foundation continues its support in the Austin community.

The Board of Directors of Springhouse Foundation consists of Paula and Dan Herd, Anna and Jason Herd, and Valerie and James (Chico) Parker.
